- Ours is the only Health Service for asylum seekers in Victoria.
- We run the only 5-days a week asylum seeker health service in Australia.
- We provide the only home English tutoring services for asylum seekers and the only 5 day a week ESL program
- Our Employment and Social Enterprise Programs are the only available for asylum seekers in Victoria.
- We run Australia’s only repatriation program for unsuccessful asylum seekers, ensuring compassion and dignity for those who are returning home.
- We act for over 75% of asylum seekers left in Australia’s detention centres.
The ASRC in Figures
- We provided 215,000 hours of assistance in the last year, making us Australia’s largest asylum seeker organisation.
- Only 6% of our funding come from the State Government and we receive no Federal Government funding.
- Since June 2001, 5467 asylum seekers have been been helped by our Casework Program; more than any other organisation.
- Since January 2007, 2101 new asylum seekers have sought welfare, aid, health or legal assistance from us.
- Our Health Centre provides medical care for 93% of all community based asylum seekers in Victoria and provided over 3000 consultations last year.
- We assist asylum seekers from 98 different countries.
- Our Counselling Program has assisted 172 asylum seekers in rebuilding their life after the trauma of events such as torture and war.
- We provide 14,560 meals a year provided through our community meals program.
- Our Human Rights Law program provides 21,000 hours of legal advice and assistance each year
- We trained 249 new volunteers in the last year and have a team of 700 volunteers, making it possible for people to help change the world for the better.
- We provide $100,000 worth of Met Tickets each year, freeing people from isolation.
- Our Foodbank provides 4800 food parcels each year.
- 5% of people who use our Foodbank have no right to work and would have no food otherwise.
- Our Employment Assistance Program helped 133 people to find work in the last 6 months.
- With the help of our pro-bono lawyers, more than 1000 people have won asylum, and freedom from persecution, war and torture.
- We provide 250 ESL classes each year, helping asylum seekers to integrate into the wider community.
- We deliver more than 100 community education talks each year to raise awareness about the plight of asylum seekers.
- We provide respite with social and recreation activities for over 500 asylum seekers each year
