ASRC Governance

The ASRC is governed by a Board elected by ASRC Financial Members.

The Role of the ASRC Board

The primary responsibilities of the Board are those of strategic management and governance, including:

  • Ensuring that the ASRC remains a viable and effective organisation, and to secure its long-term future;
  • Providing leadership in, and remaining focused upon, the development of the ASRC's organisational purpose, strategic direction and priorities;
  • Acting in the best interests of all stakeholders, particularly clients, workers (including volunteers), and the community it serves;
  • Approving and monitoring Board level policies, including operational management delegation policies;
  • Monitoring and ensuring that the aims, goals and objectives as articulated in the Strategic Plan and Annual Work Plan are aligned with the organisational purpose, strategic direction and priorities of the Centre and that they are met;
  • Monitoring performance in relation to operational management, and ensuring that it is effective and accountable in all aspects, including financial accountability, legal compliance, and industrial relations requirements;
  • Acting as a means of maintaining the Centre's awareness of, and involvement with, communities outside the organisation in relation to issues that affect the organisation, and,
  • Ensuring that there are systems and processes in place to enable consultation and information exchange between members, staff, and the board.

The Mandate of the Board, therefore, comprises four interdependant responsibilities:

Strategic Role

  • Overseeing development and review of ASRC strategic plan
  • Overseeing development and review of policy

Accountability Role 

  • Ensuring adequate financial records

Supporting Role 

  • Appointing and providing support to the CEO to carry out his/her role
  • Providing support to the ASRC to strengthen its profile and network

Monitoring Role 

  • Approving the annual budget and monitoring its implementation ·
  • Approving the annual performance plan for CEO.
