Material Aid

What we do

The Material Aid Program meets the urgent basic needs of people seeking asylum. The majority of people we assist have no income, Medicare or right to work.

We provide non-food aid according to need, including

  • Met Tickets for public transport
  • Nappies and baby welcome packs
  • Personal care essentials
  • Phone cards
  • Second hand mobile phones (as asylum seekers rarely can afford a landline)
  • Back-to-school materials for students (eg. books, stationery)
  • Bicycles
We work closely with the Casework program to help asylum seekers obtain other forms of aid (clothing, furniture, etc.) from other agencies.

How you can help

To support this vital service, you can donate items such as Metcards, mobile phones and phone cards or donate money to enable us to purchase the items we most desperately need.

Please do not donate items unless you have made prior arrangement with us (with the exception of the essentials listed on our Donations in Kind page).
