Social and Recreation
How We Help >> Social and Rec
What we do
The ASRC Social and Recreation program provides information, referral and support for social and recreation activities. Free tickets for events are sourced wherever possible and distributed to members of the ASRC. Events and weekends away are organised to help members make some social connections and provide respite from the rigours of seeking asylum.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Members can experience depression and social isolation so helping a member to attend an event or to be a part of a social program is very valuable. The look of enjoyment from members is priceless on a day out. You can help by:
- Donating tickets to events such as sports, movies, performances, theatre to give members opportunities to attend events they otherwise could not afford.
- Donating Sunday Saver Met tickets for members to attend events.
- Volunteering as an event attendant to help on a day outing on Sundays.
- Volunteering as a duty worker to work during the week informing members of what is on and helping to connect them to activities that suit their needs.
- Facilitating sessions on your chosen art, sport or social activity at the centre.
- Providing a respite home in the country for members to get away.
