Human Rights Law Program

The Human Rights Law Program provides a robust, independent, free legal service to uphold the human rights of asylum seekers. We legally assist and represent people through each stage of the refugee determination process. Via a team of over 100 volunteers and a handful of paid solicitors we provide annually more than 25,000 hours of free legal help. Our law program also engages in policy and law reform, and campaigns for social justice for asylum seekers.

Our Human Rights Law Program includes registered Migration Agents.  Please click here for a copy of the Migration Agents Registered Authority (MARA) Code of Conduct.

"I have a long history of supporting the work of the Law Program of the ASRC through providing pro - bono legal work and fundraising for the centre. I do so because I believe in what they stand for. I respect their committment to fighting for the human rights of asylum seekers and in providing a robust, independent and quality free legal service for those most in need."

I am a lawyer and have worked for commercial law firms in the past, but realised that my passion lies with public interest and human rights law. Working for the ASRC makes me feel like I am contributing towards something bigger than myself and I leave every day feeling stimulated and inspired by the stories of bravery of the asylum seekers that we assist.

"Words alone cannot express my sincere gratitude to your expended effort and unwavering support in assisting me to acquire my Protection Visa. I was in the middle of nowhere, not knowing what to do with myself and the 'demon shadow' that was following me around day and night. You welcomed me with your warm hearts and wide - opened arms, took over my worries and in you I found HOPE. The tears of sorrow that I shed on my first day I stepped into this building have been transformed to 'tears of joy'. I thank you so much and the appreciation comes from the deepest end of my heart. God bless."

In addition to supporting those seeking Asylum in Australia, the ASRC has also been active in developing meaningful contributions to the public discourse on Asylum Seeker issues, and providing a strong voice for human rights, justice and equity. This includes a range of important submissions.
