Volunteer positions

Volunteers are the lifeblood of the ASRC. As a volunteer, you are joining a movement of supporters and advocates who strengthen the organisation while creating positive change for people seeking asylum.

We are currently accepting applications for the roles listed below – nearly all of which have multiple positions available!

Please note that most volunteer roles at the ASRC ask for a commitment of one shift/week, ideally for 12 months. Roles that can partly be done remotely/outside of business hours are highlighted by

  • Intake / Welfare Support / Social Work

    Hub Triage Volunteer (multiple roles available!) – We are seeking qualified social workers or psychologists to assist people seeking asylum with high and complex needs with case coordination, information provision, referrals, and other support as needed.

    Women’s Program Intake Volunteer (multiple roles available!) – Working collaboratively with women seeking asylum, this role will conduct initial assessments and then provide ongoing support to women as they are referred to further assistance programs and services.

    Client Experience Evaluation Project Volunteer  – We’re seeking a self-starter to support and operationalise the ASRC Client Service team’s monitoring, evaluation and learning in relation to our members’ experience. This project is critical in ensuring that the voices of people seeking asylum using our services are heard. 

    Social Work Volunteer (LGBTQIA+ or FV  Specialist) (multiple roles available!)  – We are seeking volunteers with experience and specialist knowledge in the FV or LGBTQIA+ sector to join our team of social workers.

    Social Worker Volunteer (multiple roles available!) – We need qualified social workers, caseworkers and psychologists to assist in intake assessments, referrals, casework and to provide advice and information to people seeking asylum.

    Counsellor Volunteer (multiple roles available!) – The ASRC is seeking qualified counsellors, psychologists, social workers and family therapists to provide short or long-term counselling for individuals, couples and families seeking asylum.

  • Office / Admin / Program Support Roles

    Reception Volunteer
      (multiple roles available!) – We’re looking for friendly, compassionate people with excellent customer service skills to work on ASRC Reception, welcoming clients and ensuring a safe environment for all.

    Program Support Volunteer (VET)  (multiple roles available!) – Play a vital role in our education program by using your initiative and excellent customer service skills to provide outstanding administration support.

    Program Support Volunteer – Housing  Supports  (multiple roles available!) – We’re looking for administratively competent individuals to come and assist our Housing Supports program with client correspondence, data collection and analysis along with other administrative tasks as required.

    Program Support Volunteer – Dandenong  – The ASRC’s Dandenong Centre is seeking someone to provide administration assistance to the Training Coordinator in the effective running of the Pathway to Employment Program (PTE), Small Group Conversations and EAL programs.

    Women’s Program Support Volunteer  (multiple roles available!) – The ASRC is looking for highly motivated individuals, with good communication and organisation skills, to provide administrative support to the Women’s Program.

    Project Officer – Contractor Management  – We’re looking for someone to complete a short term project designing and implementing a WHS compliant contractor management system.

    Privacy Volunteer   – We’re looking for an experienced privacy professional to engage stakeholders throughout the ASRC, including Program Managers and the Leadership Team, to complete an agency-wide privacy audit.

    Innovation Hub Reception Volunteer  (multiple roles available!) – Join the front desk team in our amazing Innovation Hub! You’ll provide reception and administration services to people seeking asylum who are engaging with social activities, employment, education and our women’s and youth programs.

    Material Aid Volunteer  (multiple roles available!) – We’re seeking a Material Aid volunteer that can assist the Housing Supports Program in meeting our clients’ basic humanitarian needs by providing essential items such as clothing and baby goods.

    Procurement Officer Volunteer   – We’re seeking a qualified procurement professional to volunteer in our operations team to help develop and refine our procurement processes as well as support the fit-out of a new office space in our existing Home of Hope in Footscray.

    Content Writer Volunteer  – It’s all about content! The HR Team needs an experienced content writer with knowledge of WordPress to develop written content for the ASRC careers page.

  • Marketing

    Social Media Support Volunteer –   Are you a social media super-star? Assist in keeping the supporters of the ASRC Foodbank connected and engaged with our social media channels.

  • Community Food Program

    Training Support Volunteer  – If you have experience teaching or training people from EAL or CALD backgrounds, we would love to talk to you about joining our vibrant Community Food team.

    Donor and Corporate Relations Volunteer  –  Corporate relationships are key to keeping our Foodbank shelves stocked.  Come and help us ensure people seeking asylum have access to a steady supply of nutritious foods.

    Program Operations Support Volunteer  (multiple roles available!) –  A great all-rounder role where you will help out in all aspects of the Community Food program.

    Foodbank Volunteer  (multiple roles available!) –  This role gives you the opportunity to see the direct impact of your work as you assist people seeking asylum shop in our Footscray Foodbank.

    Foodbank Food Rescue Volunteer  (multiple roles available!) –  Assist in keeping our Foodbank stocked with fresh food by rescuing excess food from the community.

    Community Meals Cooking Volunteer  (multiple roles available!) –  Join our amazing team of kitchen volunteers and help to plan and cook a large-scale, nutritious lunch for people seeking asylum.

    Community Meals Team Leader ­– We are looking for people with experience leading diverse teams to coordinate our Monday kitchen operations which provides a hot meal for over 200 people.

    Harvest of Hope Gardening Volunteer  (multiple roles available!) – Summer is here! We need volunteers to join our Harvest of Hope market garden and help grow and harvest much needed fresh vegetables for people seeking asylum who access our Foodbank and daily cooked lunches.

  • Community Organising

    Community Organiser (QLD)  (multiple roles available!) – Mobilise people in Brisbane and QLD and to take action on the rights of people seeking asylum, building a bigger and more diverse movement. 

    Community Organiser (NSW)  (multiple roles available!) – We are seeking volunteers in Sydney with excellent networking skills to assist in engaging communities in grassroots campaigns.

    Support Relations Volunteer (NSW)  (multiple roles available!) –  Are you a ‘people person’? We are looking for volunteers to manage communications and relations with community, ASRC supporters and allies.

    Community Organiser Volunteer – Schools and Uni Organising  (multiple roles available!) –  We are looking for committed and passionate people to motivate students in high schools and universities to step up, speak out & take collective action in support of people seeking asylum and refugees.

    Pathways to Employment Advisor  (multiple roles available!) –  Working from our dynamic Footscray Innovation Hub, your role is to assist people seeking asylum to determine a suitable employment pathway.

    English for Work Teacher Volunteer  (multiple roles available!) –  Seeking volunteers with an EAL qualification to help our students increase their English language skills.

    Pathways to Employment Advisor   (multiple roles available!) –  Join us at our vibrant Dandenong centre and provide mentoring and support to people seeking asylum who are seeking employment.

    Employment Specific EAL Teacher   (multiple roles available!) –  Our Dandenong centre is looking for a focused and dynamic teacher to provide English classes directed towards increasing employment outcomes for our students.

    VET Education Advisor Volunteer –  Working from our Dandenong centre, we are looking for qualified educators to assist people seeking asylum with education options.

    Employment Placement Support Volunteer  (multiple roles available!) –  Starting a new job can be daunting, especially when you’re in a new country.  Provide much needed support and guidance to people seeking asylum who are starting new employment, and be a part of their success!

    Careers Coach Volunteer  (multiple roles available!) –  Based in our Dandenong centre, help guide people seeking asylum into jobs and paid internships, providing support and motivation along the way.

  • Digital Technology

    Salesforce Volunteer (multiple roles available!) –   Love databases?  If you have impeccable attention to detail and great communication skills, we want to hear from you!

    Intranet Volunteer (multiple roles available!) –   Calling all G Suite superstars!  We need assistance with the creation of a new Intranet in this short-term project role.

    Website Volunteer  – Assist our vibrant and busy marketing team in maintaining our website content. WordPress experience essential!

  • Human Rights Law Program

    Paralegal Volunteer  ( multiple roles available!) –   Manage the legal reception and provide assistance to our solicitors in our energetic and engaging Human Rights Law Program.

    Legal Triage Volunteer  (multiple roles available!) –   If you work well under pressure, have a flexible attitude and a demonstrated interest in Refugee Law, come and join us as the first point of contact for people seeking asylum who require legal assistance.

    Legal Research Volunteer  (multiple roles available!) –   Is researching one of your strengths? Join our award-winning legal team and assist our Human Rights Law Program protect the rights of people seeking asylum.

    Legal Casework Volunteer – Gender Clinic  (multiple roles available!) –   Utilise your expertise as a qualified solicitor or barrister along with your experience working with vulnerable clients in this specialised clinic for people seeking asylum on the basis of gender, sexuality or family violence.
