1. Contact your local MP – let them know that you do not support the Government’s policies in relation to asylum seekers.

Make sure you are writing to your local MP, if you’re not sure who it, check the Australian Electoral Commission to find your electorate and the address for your local MP.

2. Change the conversation – educate yourself around asylum seeker issues and share your knowledge with family and friends. You’ll find lots of information on the ASRC Resources Page

3. Write a letter to asylum seekers – let the asylum seekers detained on Nauru or Manus Island know that there are people in Australia that care about them. You can do this through Julian Burnside.

4. Support the ASRC – we provide crucial services to asylum seekers in the community, many of whom have no income support and no work rights. We provide people with food, material aid, housing, legal and health services, counselling and social support.

You can help us by:

  • Fundraising

5. Help out your local asylum seeker organisation – if you live outside of Melbourne there are still many great organisations that work with asylum seekers and refugees that would love your help. Check out our Directory to find the closest one to you.
